Our commitment

Full inclusion.
No exceptions.

We Are Humans has a policy that most platforms won't adopt: we do not exclude anyone based on offense type. This page explains why — and why the evidence demands it.

"You are not defined by the worst thing you have ever done."

That is not a slogan. It is the operating principle behind every decision this platform makes — including the decision to serve every justice-impacted person, without exception.

Most fair chance platforms have a hidden asterisk.

The fair chance hiring movement has made real progress. Ban-the-box laws, employer pledges, and second-chance programs have opened doors for millions of justice-impacted people. But quietly, almost universally, one group remains excluded: people with sex offense convictions.

They are carved out of job boards. Excluded from employer programs. Left off the resource lists. The assumption — rarely stated, almost never examined — is that they represent a special category of risk that justifies permanent exclusion from the workforce.

The research does not support that assumption.

What the data actually shows.

Sexual re-offense rates are among the lowest of any offense category — consistently measured at 3–5% over five years in independent studies. General recidivism rates for all offenses run closer to 50% over the same period.

Actuarial tools like the STATIC-99, used by courts and supervision departments nationwide, consistently find that the majority of people with sex offense convictions are low-to-moderate risk — particularly years after release.

Most critically: stable employment is one of the strongest known protective factors against reoffense. Unemployment and housing instability are the two factors most correlated with recidivism across every offense type. Excluding people from employment does not make communities safer. The evidence suggests the opposite.

What this means in practice.

We Are Humans does not exclude any person from the platform based on offense type. Every job seeker — regardless of their conviction, record age, or current supervision status — has access to every tool this platform offers.

This includes people with sex offense convictions. We say it plainly because most platforms won't say it at all.

What we do build — carefully and with intention — is a supervision conditions matching system. If a job seeker is on supervision with specific restrictions around location, proximity, or population type, our platform filters jobs to show only those compatible with their conditions. This protects the job seeker, supports their compliance, and gives employers confidence that placements are appropriate.

Inclusion and safety are not opposites. We have designed this platform to deliver both.

What this means for you.

Our full inclusion policy does not mean you are required to hire anyone. You set your own hiring criteria. You determine what your roles require. We never override your judgment.

What we ask is that you make hiring decisions based on the actual requirements of the role and the actual qualifications of the person — not on assumptions about offense categories that the evidence doesn't support.

Employers who demonstrate genuine full inclusion hiring — across all offense types, without carve-outs — and who share their outcomes with us will be recognized through our Full Inclusion Employer program. This designation is verified, data-backed, and earned — not purchased. It signals something real to job seekers, advocates, reentry organizations, and the communities you operate in.

We are currently designing the Full Inclusion Employer program with input from employers, researchers, and directly impacted people. Early employers who join the platform and demonstrate this commitment will receive founding member recognition and help shape what the program becomes.

Details are coming. If you want to be part of building this — register your interest when you sign up. We'll be in touch.

The employers on this platform who stay are the ones who believe what the data shows. We think you might be one of them.

We built this because no one else would build it right.

Every other platform has an asterisk. A carve-out. A population they decided was too complicated, too controversial, too risky to serve.

We decided that if you believe people are not defined by their worst moment, you have to mean it for everyone. Not just the people whose records are easy to defend. Everyone.

That is what We Are Humans is built on. It is not a policy we adopted. It is the reason we exist.
